Cognitively Disabled and Learning Disabled |
| The Cognitively Disabled and Learning Disabled programs are designed for those who have academic difficulties. Students are able to strengthen certain basic weaknesses. Through evaluated progress, a degree of success and accomplishment may be realized, where only failure was realized in a general program. This can create a more respectable self-image, and it may start the individual along the road to successful employment. Students assigned to the program shall select the required courses listed below plus the electives they would like to take outside the block. |

| #10 Physical Education |

| Physical Education is required of all eighth grade students. Activities offered include: archery, fitness, recreational sports, softball, lifetime sports, speedball, tennis, and volleyball. |

| Students will be exposed to a variety of art techniques. This will include basic drawing and sculpture. Basic design elements and principles will be introduced. |

| Band is a musical organization that provides students with
an opportunity to explore the world if instrumentals music. Foremost
among the objectives of band is to provide students with the opportunity
to become intimately acquainted with band literature, and to foster a love
for and understanding of music. Participation in band should provide
a self-satisfying level of proficiency and achievement, as well as a
strong basis for further enrichment, either with continued study or as an
avocation.
Band places emphasis on the refinement of the basic fundamentals of performance, both individually and as a group, and development of discriminative listening. Since the majority of its members will not be professional musicians, the program strives to produce an appreciation of the arts as a form of communication, self-expression and an essential part of life and the human experience. In addition to these basic objectives, participation in band develops leadership and responsibility, cooperation, self-discipline, self-motivation, and cultural awareness. Participation in band should lead the student to recognize the unique contributions of music as an art form. |

| Students will cover a variety of domestic skills including budgeting, sewing, cooking, and basic nutrition. This course if offered as a high school credit. |
| #40 Agriculture and Industrial Technology Exploration |

| This is an exploratory course for 8th grade students to become familiar with various subjects taught in the Agriculture Education and Industrial Technology Curriculums. Much of the class will be hands-on learning. Content that will be covered includes: Auto Cad, woodworking, electricity, MIG Welding, Machinery safety and Bobcat operation and careers in agriculture. A course fee to be charged. |

| During this year long course students will explore American History from Colonization through the Civil War. This course will concentrate on the founding of the United States and the dawn of a new democratic government. Students will experience the struggle of a new country to find an identity in the world, and this struggle will eventually lead to the division of the nation during the Civil War. Students will develop the skills necessary to become responsible American citizens. |

| This course's content is grammar, writing, and vocabulary. A large portion of the grammar will be a review of the eight parts of speech, capitalization, punctuation, and usage. Students will review the various styles of writing and will practice good paragraph and writing techniques. Vocabulary building is essential, and students will have an opportunity to enhance theirs by learning a myriad of meanings. Fees are assessed for a grammar workbook and a vocabulary workbook. |

| The content of Reading 8 consists mainly of literature. Through literature the students will gain an understanding of various genres along with learning reading comprehension strategies. Students will also show their understanding of elements fiction and nonfiction. |

| This class is required for all students. This class will emphasis earth and space sciences and will also cover various topics in life and physical sciences. Emphasis will be put on materials requires to pass the 8th grade science achievement test. A course fee to be charged |

| Math 87 is a general course designed to prepare 8th graders for the study of Algebra. All Prerequisites for the study of Algebra are thoroughly reviewed and enhanced. These include the study of fractions, decimals, percents, properties of Algebra, perimeter, area, volume, basic geometry and probability, measurement, ratio, and proportion. A stress is placed upon hand-written work and calculations. Calculators and not allowed. |

Listening and speaking skills, reading, and writing are emphasized. Students will study basic Spanish vocabulary such as dates, time, numbers, greeting, and useful everyday words. Grammar concentration is upon present tense verb forms. Hispanic culture and geography are also an integral part of the course. Willing ness to participate orally is important. Fees are assessed for a workbook. |

In French 1, students intensely study French grammar and vocabulary such as weather, dates, numbers, greetings, and useful everyday words. Concentration is on listening and writing skills. Students will use tapes of native speakers of Canada and France. Culture of French and Canada is studied. Fees are assessed for a workbook. |

| Open to selected 8th grade students.
German 1 students will be involved in an intense study of grammar and vocabulary dealing with areas such as weather, numbers, common greetings, and useful everyday words. German culture and geography will also be included as part of the course. Oral participation is important for students to succeed in this course. Fees are assessed for a workbook. |
