| Spanish 3 students will have an intensive study of history and literature. Students will read excerpts from stories written by prize-winning authors. Through these readings, students will gain a more in-depth knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and geography. Fees are assessed for a workbook and a dictionary must be purchased. |

| In Spanish 4, students will expand skills previously learned including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will be introduced to classical literary works such as Don Quijote, as well as, contemporary short stories, both fiction and non-fiction. A study of Hispanic culture through, art, music, and history is also stressed. A unit of teaching Spanish to elementary students and a unit on cooking is also included. A dictionary must be purchased. |

| Advanced Spanish 5 is an intensive study of Hispanic American Literature and conversation. Students will be using and applying all vocabulary and verb tenses taught from Spanish 1 - 4. We will also be adding new vocabulary from Spanish AP sample tests. Students will be reading at least one novel and discussing it as best we can in Spanish. A dictionary is required. |

| In French 1, students intensely study French grammar and vocabulary such as weather, dates, numbers, greetings, and useful everyday words. Concentration is on listening and writing skills. Students will use tapes of native speakers of Canada and France. Culture of France and Canada is studied. Fees are assessed for a workbook. |

| In French 2, students continue an intense study of vocabulary including school, food, transportation, shopping, body parts, the cinema, and the post office. Grammatical structures to be covered are direct and indirect object pronouns, the pronouns "y" and "en" and comparisons and superlatives of adjectives. Many new irregular verbs will be introduced in the present and past tenses. Reflexive verbs in the present and past tenses will also be examined. Fees are assessed for a workbook. Dictionaries are optional. |

| In French 3, students will intensely study grammar and verb tenses, the regular and irregular forms of the imperfect. Conditional, future, and subjective tenses will be introduced and studied. The present participle and if-then statements will also be introduced and studied. Vocabulary including parts of the house, professions, medicine, holidays and celebrations, sports, and camping will be stressed. Cultural studies include Quebec and other French speaking territories that will be integrated into the course through English and French readings. Conversion, writing, and translation skills are refined. A dictionary must be purchased and fees are assessed for a workbook. |

| In French 4, emphasis is put on perfecting reading, writing, translation, and conversational skills. Students begin with an intensive review of the past, the imperfect, the conditional, the future, and the subjunctive tenses. New tenses to be learned are the pluperfect, the simple past, and special uses of the infinitive. Students will read short stories and poems as well as Le Petit Prince, a short French novel. Also, a study of French culture will be completed through the study of Impressionism, Les Miserables, a French cooking unit, and authentic French films. In the spring, a unit of teaching French to elementary students will be required. A dictionary must be purchased. |
